The fireplace remodel started almost a year and today the last of the stone veneer was put in place. Warren started the project last summer but had to put it on hold when we started the kitchen remodel. Then I got him to make me a window seat to finish the kitchen off so the fireplace has been waiting for months for it's final skin.

Its been 6 weeks!
From the time the man started on the stairs until the time he left my house with all his tools, it was 6 weeks. It was meant to take 3 days.
The guy we hired to do the work is a great guy. He knows what he's doing. His work is really good. He's 'going it' by himself. He has a family to support.

Kitchen Remodel Part IV

Our kitchen is going through a transformation and we've been busy through the Christmas period, trying to get as much done as possible before the big man in the red suit arrived.
Once again, this is the before photo.
This is what it looked like before the granite, backsplash and appliances were put in place and before some of the finishing like the kickboards and above-cabinet molding.

This is what the stairs looked like at the beginning of the week.
Its taken one and a half weeks for the stairs to get finished which is due to snow days that kept the flooring guy (Russ) at another project before he could make his way over to us.
The old carpet from the stairs has been ripped up and the new wooden steps are finally in place.
Except…they squeak!!

As if the fireplace isn't enough work for Warren, next he is going to install our new kitchen cabinets.
Before that can be done, the old ones have to be ripped out. Warren is going to do that too.
I have been boxing up the contents of the cabinets and moving the boxes to the basement.
Leaving only the bare necessities.

We had coffee next to the fire in winter.
And then it became the dining room because the fireplace quit working. One year rolled by and then it was two. Soon it was three and now its been four years since the fireplace died.
